Hi Thrive community,
If you're a parent, you're being asked to go above and beyond right now. Helping your kids with their schoolwork and keeping them entertained (not to mention safe and fed) — while also navigating your own work and household duties — can be incredibly stressful. And on top of all your daily responsibilities, you're also conscious that this challenging time can spike kids' stress and anxiety.
Today, I'd love for you to share how you've been helping your kids cope with their stress and anxiety during this time.
Have you been making an effort to check in with your child each day and ask them how they're feeling? Do you help your child see the good they're doing in the world by sheltering in place, distancing, and wearing a mask? Are you being extra kind and compassionate with your kids about playtime and non-school activities? Or simply letting them stay up a little later? Tell us your best tips for helping your kids deal with stress and build resilience right now, and how you're helping them stay optimistic.
Please write back to this email with your brief responses (no attachments please!)
A few guidelines for these:
- Please include your first and last name (or initials), as well as your career field and city/state/country, like this: —Jane Smith, corporate attorney, Atlanta, GA
- Please keep responses to around 300 words. We may edit them for length or clarity if we include them in a story. (If you feel compelled to write a longer post on this topic, feel free to do so!)
- Deadline for responses: 9 AM EST on Friday, May 29th
With all the stress, anxiety, social distancing and isolation stemming from the coronavirus, the need to connect with each other is more critical than ever. Join our dedicated Facebook group to stay connected with others and share your challenges and best tips for dealing with our new normal.
Please know that while I read each and every one of your responses and am grateful for the time you took to craft them, I won't be able to write back personally. But you can check here for the latest roundups, which feature my favorite nuggets of wisdom for each topic!
